The Window & Door Manufacturers Association submitted a statement for the public record on April 6 for the Senate Finance Committee and House Ways & Means Committee’s 2023 Trade Policy Agenda hearings, which were held on March 23 and 24. The congressional hearings followed a report from the U.S. International Trade Commission, which concluded that U.S. importers bore nearly the full cost of Section 232 and 301 tariffs that were imposed on China, with more than $173 billion in tariffs levied on American businesses since 2018.
What the statement includes
WDMA’s statement reads: “These taxes continue to create tremendous uncertainty, increase the cost of doing business in the United States, and place a financial burden on American businesses—negatively impacting their ability to invest in their companies, hire more American workers, innovate new technologies, and remain competitive globally. The tariffs also have an impact on consumers. While many companies have tried to absorb the costs of the tariffs, many have had to share the costs with final consumers.”
“We urge the Committees to continue weighing in with the Biden-Harris Administration to ensure that destructive tariffs are lifted and that a new and more effective approach to addressing China’s unfair trading practices is adopted.”
The WDMA supports the immediate removal of Section 232 and 301 tariffs and continues to lobby members of Congress and the Biden Administration, including key officials from the U.S Departments of Treasury and Commerce, as well as USTR and the U.S. International Trade Commission, to remove these tariffs on manufacturers.
