Winner of Clopay Contest Receives Lego Replica of Architectural Project

About Bricks ’n’ Lagers
Clopay Corp. hosted the Bricks ’n’ Lagers contest at its AIA convention booth last June. The event encouraged architects and other visitors to tap into their childlike wonder by playing with the architecture series of Lego bricks during a happy hour event. As part of the activities, participants had a chance to win a Lego brick replica of one of their own architectural projects to be recreated by Lego brick artist Benjamin Radell.
The winner
Michael Poris was announced the winner in August 2023, after which project details were handed over to Radell to begin designing the replica.
Poris co-founded McIntosh Poris Architects in 1994. The firm is recognized for its residential, commercial and institutional architecture and interior design work throughout Metro Detroit and has received more than 160 design awards. Its most recent accolade was the 2023 CREW Detroit Impact Award for New Construction for The Freelon at Sugar Hill, a development that includes mixed-income apartments and commercial and retail space.
The replica is modeled after a McIntosh Poris-designed, midcentury, modern-inspired, 4,700-square-foot residence in West Bloomfield, Michigan, which was completed in January 2023. Radell presented the prize to Poris in front of the home.
What people say
"It was fun participating in Clopay’s Bricks ‘n’ Lagers event at the 2023 AIA Convention,” says Poris. “Legos are a memorable part of my childhood, so it was really rewarding to see my work represented in a Lego model.”
“Bricks ’n’ Lagers was a total hit and overwhelmingly successful at bringing creatives like Michael Poris to our booth at A’23,” says Alexis Dabdoub, architectural product representative, Clopay. “It was a great opportunity to talk with architects and designers about our overhead doors and closure products and how they fit into modern design.”
